Abstract
Insects and their debris were isolated from some parchment and paper manuscripts from the library of Megisti Laura (or Great Lavra) Monastery on Mount Athos, Greece. The insects proved to belong to the Psociids family, commonly called the book louse insect. To eradicate the insects without harming the paper or parchment, an anoxic treatment using argon gas was carried out. The procedure and rationale are described.
