Abstract
During the past years several new conservation methods have been developed at the British Museum, for instance a treatment of waterlogged wood with polyethylene glycol, and new applications of Araldit and a permeable nylon solution. The so-called bronze-disease is treated with silver oxide. The intensive washing process is discussed, as well as a neutralisation method for lead objects. Silicone bouncing putty, lightly rolled over the surface, has proved very effective in cleaning painted wooden objects such as egyptian steles.
