Abstract
Rome is the centerpiece of a widespread Italian campaign of conservation and restoration projects spurred by a 1981 law granting funds for monument first aid. Notes steps being taken to deal with the major problem of pollution, describes the treatment of one painting in a Roman museum, and briefly discusses the role which private companies have taken in the funding of conservation.
