The title of this short article describes a well which was found on excavation of medieval strata in the old town of Ringkobing in Western Denmark. Instead of being lined with stones, this well was built up of layers of turf laid in a zigzag pattern. This type of well may have been quite common for many centuries in parts of the country where stone and wood were scarce whereas turf material was readily available.
