Two different training systems for conservators/restorers have recently been proposed in Norway. Both aim at the highest level for academic education in the country (Ph.D. or equivalent degree). One model proposes the integration of conservation into the existing university subjects, while the other recommends an independent school be established. The discussion of the two altematives raises the question: do we want curators with a formal competence to restore, or restorers with a formal curatorial competence? See also AATA 18-1003.
