A desk or table formed of heavy paper board or the like, capable of being readily assembled or dismantled without the use of tools, and including parts which interlock with one another for maintaining the desk or table assembled and which may be readily disconnected for detaching the desk or table top from its supporting uprights. Supporting uprights of different cross sectional size can be utilized depending upon whether or not the furniture item is to be provide with a sliding drawer. The desk or table top may be dismantled to assume a flat position and the uprights may be collapsed for storage or transportation of the furniture item. Knowledge of furniture manufacture can aid in its conservation.
