Abstract
A study has been made of the chemical and physical characteristics of the stone facades of the historic buildings at Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia. The stone consists principally of Pennsylvania marble and has suffered damage due to a unique combination of inherent vice, air pollutants, and previous attemps at conservation.
