Awareness of the pitfalls of palaeoclimatic inference has prompted some scholars to suggest that prehistoric archaeology might benefit if we paid more attention to landscape change and less to hypothetical climatic oscillations thought to be responsible for such changes. This viewpoint is endorsed by alluvial stratigraphy and archaeological studies at sites in the Nile Valley, the River Son in North-central India, and at the foot of the Blue Mountains, Eastern New South Wales, Australia.
