Abstract
Characteristics and references are tabulated for over 20 types of microfossils that are useful for archaeological reconstruction. Microfossils contribute information about palaeoenvironments, cultural activities and, occasionally, the age of deposits. These uses are illustrated using siliceous microfossils, to counterbalance the relative neglect of these types.
