Abstract
Draperies that are used in such institutions as hospitals and schools are frequently finished with flame retardant. Drycleaners may be contracted to clean these draperies and apply additional flame retardant. State and local fire laws generally address the drycleaner's liability. The drycleaner is required to refer to any cleaning instructions on the draperies. Sample testing for flammability both before and after cleaning is also critical.
