Abstract
The application of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to the identification of semisynthetic and synthetic plastics is discussed. The sampling technique is described. Three materials, natural rubber, cellulose nitrate (celluloid), and cellulose acetate are discussed and examples of identification of these materials are presented.
