Abstract
A simple method for the measurement of the isotopic abundance shifts of Ca-44 and K-41 (in compounds of low volatility) by neutron activation analysis is described. The extraction and measurement procedures for the radioactive argon isotopes (Ar-37, Ar-39, and Ar-41) produced by the (n,alpha) and (n,p) reactions are also given. The results obtained demonstrate that the accuracy for the measurement of sigma Ca-44 is better than by the mass spectrometric method; in the case of sigma K-41 measurement the accuracy is the same as that obtained with the mass spectrometer. Interfering reactions which yield other rare gases and their relative contribution to the error in the measurement of sigma values are also discussed.
