An exhibit of Techniques of Print Conservation and Analysis, followed by the construction of a storage/conservation laboratory for the Merrimac Valley (Mass.) Museum reflected a four-year project in achieving the proper physical conditions and acquiring a qualified conservator for the Museum's collections. Examination of archival material, furnishing a paper conservation workshop, developing correct methods of treating, storing and framing are described. The author considers that regional study, storage and conservation depots may enable small history museums to gain the services of qualified technicians and enjoy the benefits of climate-controlled physical plants which they could not otherwise afford. Small museums can retain their individuality and produce their own exhibits without keeping all their collections inside parochial boundaries.
