Abstract
Under the main headings of Preservation, Safety and Storage Equipment this study outlines conditions and methods which will prevent deterioration of museum collections. Accessibility and vis-ibility are stressed in recommending storage equipment and safety is considered in evaluating such picture storage devices as sliding panels and fixed partitions. The relative merits of metal and wood shelves are discussed and information is offered on trays, individual containers, textile cylinders and Solander boxes. In addition to comments on fire prevention systems, fumigation, security and light control, considerable attention is given to air conditioning, the maintenance of the proper relative humidity for different materials such as paper, wood, textiles, metals and unstable glass.
