A chance discovery was made in 1987 of a one-person boat, originally ca 3. 73 m long, showing unworn adze marks and traces of four or five different tool types. Details are given and a reconstruction offered; the felling date was 950-1000. Plant remains, if contemporary with the boat, indicate its use in flowing water. Pollen and diatoms were analyzed and the 11th century archaeological context of the area is discussed.
