Abstract
The degradation of fabrics by acidic perspiration proceeds at a slow rate initially, but increases in time. Tensile strength decreases and yellowing increases. X-ray diffraction studies showed that although the effect is mainly due to the degradation of amorphous regions, the crystalline region is somewhat affected. Electron microscopic studies revealed the degradation and loosening of the microfibrils and the development of cracks.
