Abstract
The article deals with conservation management. In the past 30 years conservation laboratories have developed and become more sophisticated and complex. The necessity for, and the benefits of sound conservation management are discussed. The differences in outlook between a conservator and a manager are highlighted and finally a plea is made for good preparation and training for management. The role of mangement is discussed in relation to personnel, work load, health and safety, finances and communications. Outlines characteristics of a manager and future career prospects. 18 bibliographic references.
