Abstract
A feature of our environment that is usually overlooked in ecological and conservationist discussions and undertakings, is the fabric of natural rhythm and organically developed social rhythms, their duration and tempo. The roles of temporalities as part of our global environment and cultural heritage are stressed in this paper. Emphasis is also laid on the importance of developing a deeper appreciation of everyday temporal and rhythmic configurations, local time orders and traditional patterns of presences and absences, an appreciation that should include the ability to perceive the aesthetic quality of a set of categories and parameters that may be usefully employed in the observation and description of natural and social temporalities.
