Abstract
Tanning characteristics of aged naphthalene syntan-treated myrobalan liquor were studied in comparison with untreated myrobalan liquor with regard to the time of ageing. The treatment of myrobalan liquor with the syntan minimised the loss of tannins due to the degradation caused by fungal infection. The greater stability of naphthalene syntan-treated myrobalan liquor to ageing may be attributed to the increase in the solubilisation of constituents of myrobalan and the resistance offered to fungal growth in the liquor due to the presence of the syntan.
