The book covers 150 genera including humans. The author covers the necessary anatomical background and continues to examine the microscopic structure of teeth. Ways of determining the age at death of the animal are discussed as well as methods for recording tooth variation within species. This is put in the context of domestication, evolution, and the biology of ancient populations. A final chapter is devoted to the problems posed by various forms of dental disease.
