Although better methods exist for metal identification, chemical spot tests can be effectively used for identification of 'modern' metals, namely; Al, Sb, Cu, Au, Fe, Pb, Ni, Ag, Sn, and Zn. It is important to understand the limitations of the procedure. Charts can be used for comparisons of metal constituents, testing procedures, color reactions, and detection limits.
