Abstract
This paper reviews theories relevant to designing packing cases that provide stable interior environments, i.e. temperature and relative humidity. In addition, findings of ongoing research conducted at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, are provided that indicate that painting materials respond dimensionally to temperature independent of relative humidity.
