Abstract
Small specimens of <i>P. heldreichii</i> (grown in Montenegro) and of the other woods were exposed to cultures of <i>Merulius lacrymans (Serpula lacrimans)</i> and <i>Coniophora cerebella (C. puteana)</i> on malt extract for four months. The heartwood of <i>P. heldreichii</i> was very resistant to both fungi, with weight losses of only 0.6-0.7% (vs. 5-6% in Scots pine heartwood); the sapwood, however, was only slightly more resistant than Scots pine sapwood to <i>S. lacrimans</i> and much less resistant to <i>C. puteana</i>. Results confirm the remarkable durability of munika heartwood. -- AATA
