Abstract
There is an important and serious question in regards to the mineralogical-petrographical examination of the neolithic ceramic object discovered at Lake Burgaeschisee, Switzerland. The question arises on which natural science method to use to recheck the claim of function as a copper melting pot by the archaeological party. Inasmuch as the object is a one and only piece, it is to remain absolutely intact. All methods requiring the removal of even minute amounts of substance of the object, for the purpose of analysis, are out of the question. The inner surface of the neolithic melting pot containing black (chalcopyrite) and red-brown (Goethite) pigments, caused the question and the discussion on the object of having been either a melting pot, or a lamp. The article describes the method of testing and examination used in this case.
