Historical parchment preparation in Greece and the West is discussed. The Greek method tended to cause lack of adhesion and flaking paint. Damage in manuscript painting is divided into two groups: pulverization of paint layer deprived of the medium, and flaking of the paint layer. In the first case, consolidation is necessary, in the second glueing to the parchment is necessary. Byzantine miniatures and 12th century Greek Gospels were treated. Deformed parts of the parchment were straightened by distant moisturing through numerous sheets of filter paper.
