Abstract
This second part begins with brief general sections on authentication methods, on instrumentation, and on the reasons for chemical analysis. A discussion of ancient metallurgy deals with sampling problems, with the history of ancient metal technology, and with studies of Luristan bronzes and of South Indian bronzes: some analytical results are quoted for the latter. There is a short section on Mughal Indian miniature painting, and a longer one on paint media studies, divided into passages on gums, glues, drying oils and autoxidation of drying oils; various compositional data are tabulated. The investigation of new materials, particularly in contemporary art, is mentioned briefly. Four halftone plates, six tables and 40 references.
