Excavations in Palestine, Cyprus, and coastal Syria nearly fifty years ago yielded characteristic two-colored pottery, which was dated to the Late Bronze I period (generally assigned to the 15th-16th century B.C.). This pottery, termed Bichrome Ware, was made using the potter's wheel. It has been commonly accepted that the potter's wheel was not used in Cyprus as early as the period in question, and hence the Bichrome Ware was believed to have derived from Palestine and imported into Cyprus. Neutron activation analysis of significant numbers of this and related pottery groups, and comparison of the resulting composition patterns (by previously described methods) have provided strong evi dence that the accepted notions must be abandoned. -- AATA
