Personal experience at the Fine Arts Museums and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, is cited. To assure proper care of artifacts there is a need for standardization of preservation and conservation techniques used by archaeologists and anthropologists, and such standards should be published. Ethnographers have been concerned with the content and the method of collection and its description without taking into consideration its preservation and restoration. -- AATA
