A precision x,y positioning device and drill press with magnifier and illumination is described for sampling thin metal objects inobtrusively. A code 150-C slow helix, 118° point angle, polished flute drill is recommended for this particular type of metal (leaded bronze). A table of suitable drills and their critical dimensions is given. Results concerning three of the author's own coins are given and discussed. -- AATA
