Abstract
Corrosion behavior of tor steel has been studied in both stagnant and deaerated solutions containing sodium chloride concentrations of 200, 1000, and 5000 ppm and sodium nitrite concentrations of 10-3N, 10-1N, and 1N, respectively. The samples did not show corrosion in the presence of 10-1N and 1N1 NaNO2 concentrations in the salt solutions. Anodic polarization studies indicated that samples are unlikely to show corrosion in 200 ppm salt solutions containing 1N and 10-1 N inhibitor concentrations, even if the free corroding potential shifts appreciably in the noble direction. The beneficial effect of oxygen in assisting the inhibiting action of sodium nitrite has been revealed. -- AATA
