A silver bowl in the collection of the Department of Egyptology of University College, London, with a unique incurved rim and reputed to derive from dynastic Egypt had earlier been thought to be manufactured by spinning. Examination and replication of the bowl in copper by spinning and by hammering led to the conclusion that the silver bowl had been made by hammering. This supports the known facts of metalworking in dynastic Egypt and the contention of many that metal spinning is a much more modern invention. -- AATA
