Abstract
A Roman mosaic was discovered in 1797 at Horkstow, Lincs, U.K.; it was drawn and covered over. It may have been disturbed again before removal in 1927 to the British Museum. The 1927 treatment is described: coating plus adhesive and sacking, rollered with garden roller to loosen tesserae from mortar; rolled and transported; laid to concrete. Sometime around 1970 it was rebacked on vermiculite/resin mix and bolted to panels of marine plywood by Bachelas of Horkstow under Bill Novis. In 1974 it was released to Hull Museum, part displayed on the floor and part on walls. -- AATA
