A new form of electret, a permanently charged fiber, has been developed in Japan by Toray of Osaka. Toray makes a polypropylene electret, called Toraymicron, using fine fiber production technology. The electrets can be made up into nonwoven fabrics, which have considerable potential for use in clean rooms, air filters, medical masks, and other areas. Another development from Toray is Toraysee, a specialty lens cleaner. Toraysee is a nonwoven textile, based on ultrafine fibers, which gives a microsponge surface.
