This chapter describes a modified Tape Machine spectrochemical technique for use in geochemical prospecting. The authors have analyzed copper along with some lead and iron, but it is suggested that several other minor elements in soils and rocks could also be determined. Sensitivity is claimed to be on the order to 10 to 50 ppm. A powdered soil sample is spread on an adhesive tape which is fed through an electric gap where it receives an analyzing spark. Data are recorded with an eight-channel direct reading spectrograph. (Abstractor's note: This setup is 22 years out of date as of 1989, and must be considered obsolete.
