The main objective of this study is to provide guidance to building owners and personnel in the selection of a central control and monitoring system suitable for a specific building or group of buildings. It is also aimed at estimating the annual energy savings resulting from utilization of CCMS and of estimating the payback period for various types of systems. A survey was made, therefore, to gather information regarding the initial and operating cost of CCMS, over-all savings and the fractions of these savings credited to each individual energy conservation measure. For most of the systems surveyed, it was possible to gather data about the capital cost, the number of monitored points and the various design and operating features. But it was impossible to identify the annual savings credited only to the use of CCMS. In this report the results of the foregoing survey are presented showing the main design features and areas of application of some systems. Total cost of the system and the number of points monitored are used to develop a simple guideline for selecting a suitable CCMS for a given large building or group of buildings.
