The transfer of panel paintings to wood supports using a synthetic adhesive, colle à froid de Nobel, (cellulose nitrate) is described. The glue is painted on the new panel which is applied to the painting in a veneering press, the latter used to achieve good adhesion. A new rigid wood material, Ensolplatten, attached with a resin adhesive replaces the layers of paper and glue formerly used as facing material in the transfer process.
