Abstract
The radionuclide x-ray fluorescence analysis has been applied for the analysis of antique coins (Grecian from 480 BC to approx. 229 AD), and Roman from 85 BC to 243 AD. Grecian coins (nine samples) were characterized by a high silver content (88,0-95,5%), Roman coins (nine samples) contained 57,8-87,0 % silver. The content of only qualitatively determined copper, lead, and zinc may be connected with raw materials and/or technology. Analysis of two recent forgeries is discussed. -- AATA
