The transfer of a (late 15th century) panel painting is described in detail. After removal of the wood panel and treatment of the reverse with size and shellac and the application of a new ground, the paint film was adhered to Ulster linen with beeswax-dammar lining adhesive by the hand ironing method. A glass tumbler was used to extrude excess wax. The painting was then marouflaged to a preheated Lebron honeycomb panel on the vacuum hot table set at 300° F for 25 minutes and a 25 Hg pressure. The process was repeated to achieve better adhesion. An hour and a half was required to reach 275° F (140° F surface termperature) at 25 Hg pressure. Infrared lamps were used for additional heat.
