Abstract
The author describes a canvas by John Constable which is painted on both sides. The sketch on one side is Willy Lott's Home and on the other A Country Road with Trees and Figures . X-radiography was carried out, but a confused image resulted. Cross-sectional analysis of paint layers on both sides of the painting has been carried out and from this the sequence of painting deduced. The paper concludes by dating both paintings based on the use of pigments. The paper does not address the conservation of the paintings and appears only to confirm already known use of materials by this artist.
