The warping of a plank arising from the difference between radial and transverse swelling/ shrinking with change in moisture content is generally known in qualitative terms. Using polar coordinates r and theta, an analysis is made of 'simple warping,'i. E. Unrestrained, not involving plastic flow, hysteries or cell wall collapse. General observations are made on the practical care of panel paintings.
