Abstract
Examples are given of different treatments applied to polychromed wood sculpture seriously damaged by insects: fumigation with methyl bromide or Zyklon B, application of Xylamon Combi-Clear, consolidation with Paraloid B72 (with or without pentachlorophenol) and partial replacement of the wood. These operations are described with the reasons for their choice and the inherent problems in each case. The conclusion warns against the use of mass treatment procedures for polychromed wood.
