The factors which influence the wooden resonating parts of violins are discussed. These include proper selection of the wood, its preparation and varnishing. Some possible techniques for wood preparation and varnishing are considered which might play some part in the final resonating qualities of the instrument. Earlier attempts to elucidate these factors are discussed, particularly in relation to stradivarius instruments. Bibliography.
