Abstract
The effectiveness of selected antioxidants and UV absorbers in reducing color change and fiber degradation in treated fabrics was studied to lead to the determination of whether beneficial synergistic interactions exist between antioxidants and UV absorbers. The usefulness of the products as additives to drycleaning solutions for museum textiles and as additives to soil repellent finishes was also considered. The protective effects of the UV stabilizer treatments were modest. Some products increased yellowing in undyed specimens during exposure to light. Generally, the UV absorber/antioxidant combinations exhibited no beneficial synergism.
