The authors of the present article try to formulate a new concept of consolidation - the spatial concept - by taking the church Saraca - a historic monument, as concrete example. The paper includes an analysis of the monument under several aspects connected with: the mechanism of spatial damaging regarded from the interior and exterior of the monument, the previous interventions, the conclusions drawn after the examination of the damaging processes, the concept of consolidation with description of the adopted solution. The spatial solution consisted in the introduction of a frame made up of elements included in the masonry. The utilized materials and technologies made it possible to achieve a good co-operation between the new and the old. The link between the new and the old is made by an adherence resulted from a special treatment of the surface and from a method based on sorted aggregates, cement, lime and water in excess. The new materials that are used lie on the border between the classic concrete and the mortar utilized in masonry permitting the migration of vapours through the relatively big porosity and giving a higher resistence to compression and stretching.
