The use of ESR has enabled the fields of oceanography, geography and archeology to enter a new era. ESR now allows measurements to be taken which exceed the accuracy of Carbon 14 dating, which has accuracy limitations of 40, 000-50,000 years, by up to four centuries. Consequently, the use of ESR has necessitated a revision of much of the literature which was written up until 1983.
