Abstract
Institutions which collect photographs from the period 1890-1940 are likely to have cellulose nitrate films, which must be quickly identified separated and stored safely owing to their serious instability and high flammability. This technical leaflet deals with manufacture of cellolose nitrate, its deterioration processes and the factors affecting the rate of decay, the hazards of deteriorated films, and responsible management of film collections. 17 bibliographic references.
