Abstract
Data on chemical compounds present in polluted air are reported and the possible effects on artistic and archaeological materials are discussed. De tails are given on the effects of acid rain, carbon dioxide and sulfur oxides. Principal sources of pollution and pollutants emitted by different sources are also summarized.
