Abstract
The most important tests used in rock mechanics for rock materials are reviewed as potentially extending to the study of the deterioration and consolidation of stone. The problems are illustrated which relate to natural or manmade deteriorations of rock masses on which buildings or towns of artistic and historical value are sited.
