Replicas of original and damaged fibers have been prepared and compared electron-microscopically. Damage typical of attack by halogens, sulphuryl chloride, and by alkali is characterized. Other materials examined include fibers treated with sulphuric acid, fibers coated with a polymer deposit, and fibers subjected to tryptic digestion.
