Describes an experimental book structure for conservation which evolved from attempts to find a suitable method for resewing Middle Eastern books. A major requirement for this structure is that no adhesive should be used on the original spine folds. To produce a binding that will appear sympathetic to contemporary Middle Eastern bindings, the structure should have a flat spine with little or no swelling and no backing.
